The Fearless Female Entrepreneur

Oct 28, 2019

Welcome to Episode 16 of #TrueJoyRevolution. Today I am chatting with Autumn Roadruck, The Start Up Success Podcast. I am obsessed with this episode and our conversation.

We dive deep into some rarely shared secrets of starting a business. We chat about the importance of defining your own success, overcoming comparisonitis, and common myths about starting a business.

There are so many golden nuggets of wisdom in this episode.

Powerful Insights from Autumn:

“When you are first starting your business no matter what industry you're in whether it's service, whether it's coaching, whether it's brick and mortar, whether it's you know you're a yogi, or crafter on Etsy, whatever that is, you need to define your success first."

“There's so many different ways to get on top of that mountain of success or whatever you define it as. Whether it's money, or a feeling, or the freedom… there's so many different ways, and trails and paths. And I just want people to realize that there's no one path that's going to get you there. There's gonna be things that you're going to need to try, go down different trails…but at the end of the day, it really is about getting on top of the mountain.”

“It really is about what is your definition of success.”

“It doesn't have to be perfect just something is better than nothing."

"So go!  Go with your gut. Go where it feels best for you…being everywhere means you can't focus on everything well.”

“You can't make it complicated or you can't succeed because you're literally spinning...it's too much...When you're spinning, you're not doing the things that are going to grow your business. You're almost at this plateau of maintenance versus growing, so you're working IN your business versus working ON your business."

Autumns's top myths to starting a business

  1. Myth 1: “You have to have a lot of likes, a lot of social, a lot of following... you almost have to go viral to see success.” ~Autumn

Autumn says of the myth: “That's not true. You can make genuine connections and then leverage other people's audiences to not only grow your audience, but sell whatever you have to sell.".
  2. Myth 2: It has to be perfect.

There is no perfect. No business owner is perfect. Every business owner has their fair share of failures, products that haven't sold, videos that haven't been watched. It's all a learning experience and with each experience you learn something new that brings you closer to what is the best fit for you.

Autumn shared how she approaches and conquers her perfectionist thoughts: "I'm always just taking imperfect action... I hit the publish button. If I'm thinking twice about hitting the publishing button or the submit button, I do it even quicker."

  3. Myth 3: “You have to be everywhere all the time.”

"So go!  Go with your gut. Go where it feels best for you
being everywhere means you can't focus on everything well.” ~Autumn

Autumn has a great tip on what to ask yourself when you have multiple opportunities or decisions to make in your business: “I really do ask myself "what is the long-term game plan for me? Is it I'm going to monetize on this? Is it going to make my life a little bit easier in the future? How does this whole grand scheme fit into everything?”
